We’re coming to the end of another very busy wedding season here at Crockwell, and looking forward to a productive autumn, putting plans in place for the venue for next year and beyond. Congratulations to all of our summer 2014 couples! We have been lucky to have a wonderful summer with warm sunny days in endless supply. Have a look at our Recent Weddings page for photos and write ups of a few from this summer, and of course, testimonials from those who have married here recently.

Important practical information for our 2015 couples can be found here.

New for 2015 ladderback chairs

Firstly, we are investing in new ladderback chairs for next year, meaning that couples will not need to hire them in but will have the option of using either our gold, cushioned chairs which look fabulous with covers to tie in with your colour scheme or the ladderback chairs which work well with rustic themes and for which there is no need for covers.  The ladderback chairs are also slightly smaller than the gold ones, increasing the maximum capacity in the hall from 74 to 86. Underfloor heating in the main marquee

We have also been busy putting in a biomass boiler which will be up and running in the next few weeks, and by February, should be heating the whole venue including the farmhouse and bedrooms. This is a hugely efficient method of heating – using predominantly renewable woodchip for fuel replacing the outdated and fuel thirsty oil boilers that we have previously used. In addition to underfloor heating already in place in the hall, the main marquees will also be heated underfloor; which along with the insulation above the marquees will make for a more constant ambient temperature throughout the winter months.  The installation of the biomass boiler has been an important step in our long term project for a greener and more self sufficient wedding venue. Thanks to solar panels, the farm already generates enough power to cover most of our basic energy requirements for the majority of the year.

Camping options

Talking of green, camping has become a popular option for wedding guests here seeking affordable and nearby accommodation. In addition to the nine bedrooms we have on-site, some guests may fancy a romantic night under canvas in our paddock. We leave the loos open overnight and you have the option of inviting campers to join you for full English breakfast the morning after the wedding for £10 per person. If you don’t have your own tent, a local company can supply pretty and comfortable bell tents with or without bedding.  Contact us for more details.

Camping is available for your guests.

Garden plans

In the garden, Hermione is putting plans in place for Spring / Summer 2015. This includes a mammoth order of over six thousand bulbs to plant both in pots and our new orchard which will make for a beautiful display next Spring and hopefully some exciting new photo opportunities for next years’ couples in addition to the extensive borders and gardens already here.  Incidentally, we do still have availability for February and March 2015 and with a £1000 reduction on the facility fee. Our next public Open Evening  will be in March 2015 but please give us a call or email if you would like to come and have a show round any time. We prefer to give personal show rounds as we have more time to concentrate on your individual needs and answer questions; something which is important to our philosophy as an exclusive wedding venue that strives to tailor the day to your bespoke requirements.
