The nights have been getting longer and there is most definitely a chill in the air, and with the start of Advent we are busy putting up Christmas trees, fairy lights and a few Christmas decorations ready for the festive period.
Winter is a magical time for a wedding at Crockwell with beautiful opportunities for photos outside in the gardens and inside in the warm vaulted hall.
With the rural setting of hills and grassy fields here at Crockwell we enjoy some stunning scenery at this time of year, starting with some spectacular sunrises. The trees have been blown all but bare, leaving skeletons for us to drape in fairy lights for a dramatic evening display. Frost and snow transform the farm into a winter wonderland.
For the lead up to Christmas and until 6th January, we have Christmas trees both outside on the veranda and inside the marquees. Our marquees are protected by fully insulated permanent barn venues for weddings and are toasty warm in the winter months, while the panoramic windows ensure you can still enjoy the extensive views from inside.
Keeping to a seasonal theme, you may want to serve mulled wine for your reception drinks which can take place in the pretty vaulted hall. This also provides the perfect setting for formal photos when it’s too cold outside.
The hall and marquees can be decorated to your taste, with pine cones and white, red or purple flowers adding to the warm atmosphere. Candles are a romantic addition in the form of tea lights or candelabras which are particularly effective in the evenings. Sunset is another opportunity for photos and after dark the marquee really comes to life with our up lighters, chandeliers and star-lit dance floor.
For your wedding breakfast enjoy the seasonal offerings provided by the Chopping Block, perhaps with Prosciutto and figs to start, or home cured Gravadlax and pickled beetroot followed by tender British beef or spiced braised pork with plums. For dessert, you might go for a pear and almond tart, sticky toffee pudding or maybe a delicious apple and blackberry crumble. At Christmas time, why not serve mince pies with your coffee? Later on in the evening, a classic cheeseboard will go down a treat, and maybe some port too.
You will find your guests are always up for a party at this time of year and a wedding is a wonderful thing to look forward to. Don’t expect many “no’s” on your invitation list!
On top of all this, our winter prices are significantly less than summer, making it a very attractive and more affordable option.
